Every cruise sale has terms and conditions, and they decide what you actually get. Most are reasonable. A few clauses come up again and again, and knowing them protects you from surprises.
The Clauses That Matter Most
| Clause | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| “Per person, double occupancy” | Prices and offers assume two guests sharing; solo travelers often pay more |
| “Cruise fare only” | Taxes, fees, port expenses and gratuities are not discounted |
| “Prevailing rates” | The discount applies to the fare at the time of booking |
| “Capacity controlled” | Limited cabins at the offer; it can end early for a sailing |
| “New bookings only” | Existing reservations may not qualify |
| “Not combinable with…” | Lists rates and offers that cannot be used together |
| “Non-refundable deposit” | You lose the deposit if you cancel, though it may become a future cruise credit |
| “No cash value” | Onboard credit cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash |
Deposits and Cancellation
Many sales are tied to a particular deposit type. A reduced deposit lowers what you pay today but may be non-refundable. A refundable deposit costs more up front but protects you if plans change. Look at the dates in the cancellation schedule too: after final payment, penalties usually rise in steps as sailing approaches.

Eligibility and Combinability
Some offers are only for new individual bookings; group, travel agent and interline rates are often excluded. Combinability rules can work in your favor: Royal Caribbean’s terms, for instance, allow promo-code offers to combine with its BOGO60 and Kids Sail Free promotions, but not with group or travel agent rates. Always ask which offers can apply together on your booking.

Fine Print Questions
What does “prevailing rates” mean in cruise sale terms?
It means the offer applies to the fares the line is charging at the time you book, not to a fixed price. The headline discount is taken from whatever that fare is.
What does “capacity controlled” mean?
Only a limited number of cabins on each sailing are offered at the sale price. When they are gone, the offer may no longer be available for that sailing or category.
